Newest custom sea glass ring

I received an order for a custom sea glass wire wrap ring after my last post here about my sea glass jewelry. The customer saw my blog posting here and asked for something to match her personality, which she described to me as being a fast paced, free spirit, living life like there's no tomorrow. I designed this big, bold, bright ring for her and she loved it!

The wonder of sea glass

I realized today that whenever I talk about Marjorie's Cracked Plate Jewelry, I usually mention the broken china work that I do. And lately the Waterford crystal pieces I've added. But I haven't talked about my sea glass jewelry in quite some time and since warmer days will soon be on their way, I thought I devote a blog to sea glass.













I think the intrigue of sea glass is that, when you find a glittering piece on the shore, you can only imagine the places that piece of glass has been to. Tossed into the sea, the glass was swept along on tides, rolled with the waves, nudged by the fish, gently rubbed on the sand and was rollercoasted during storms. For years and years, sometimes as many as 50 - 70 years or more, the glass was broken down into smaller pieces and those pieces were worn and smoothed and shaped by the ocean and sand. And then the ocean gave it to you to find on the shore.







True authentic sea glass has a beautiful frosted sheen. It's become harder to find these days when more containers and bottles are made from plastic than glass. But if you're diligent and have a good eye, you can still find these jewels on beaches. Most of the sea glass found in stores and online today is tumbled sea glass, which is artificially created in tumbling machines. All of the sea glass jewelry shown on this page are designed from authentic sea glass found of the shores of New Jersey. Maui Hawaii Sea Glass Bracelet

Living on the Jersey Shore all my life, I have collected many pieces of sea glass over the years. Unfortunately, I didn't hang on to a lot of it, especially after my daughter grew up. Of course, now I seriously regret that since sea glass is not as easily found as it once was, due to the fact that we use much more plastic than glass these days. I wonder if sea plastic will ever have the allure that sea glass does. Hard to imagine! But I do have some sea glass left and I've made some jewelry with it to go along with the "cracked" theme of my website. After all, sea glass is actually broken or cracked bottles that have been naturally formed and smoothed by the sea. And I've always loved the beauty of natural sea glass.

Then a few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of receiving some sea glass from a fellow jewelry designer and friend from Maui, Hawaii. I've always dreamed of visiting Hawaii one day and couldn't have been happier to receive genuine Maui sea glass. Here's the first jewelry piece made from Jamee's Maui sea glass, made with gold artist wire. New Sea Glass Video

I just set up a video for my sea glass jewelry last night. I don't have video equipment so used One True Media to make it. I've been wanting to do one for my sea glass jewelry for some time now. I put my broken china one up on YouTube about 3 months ago and it's had almost 600 views which pleases me no end! The videos aren't too professional but it's kind of neat to be able to showcase my jewelry on YouTube.

New Sea Glass Jewelry!!

I'm very pleased to say that I've just finished putting up a few pieces of my new sea glass jewelry on my website.  There's an ankle bracelet (anklet), a ring and two pendants.  Here's a photo of the anklet.

I wasn't sure at first if the sea glass would fit in with my "cracked" theme, but a lady who has taken some of my jewelry into her store on consignment mentioned that sea glass is formed from "cracked" bottles or glass so it fits in just fine!

The sea glass used in my jewelry is authentic sea glass.  Unfortunately, sea glass is getting harder and harder to find since we use much more plastic than glass these days.  When my daughter was little, we always collected sea glass whenever we went to the beach, which was often.  Luckily, I still have some of that sea glass to make some jewelry pieces with.  I wish I had kept more of it!  Not all of the pieces that I have are the right shape and size to make jewelry with.
