Latest Custom Order

Here's the latest custom order that I've completed.  There's a tragic story behind this piece.  A woman who had a son who was very ill and in severe pain suffered the loss of that son when he committed suicide.  On the day of his death, she broke a saucer.  A friend of hers asked me to design a jewelry piece from that broken china.  The customer was very pleased with the pendant and I hope her friend will be pleased, too.

Latest custom order from wedding china

Just finished up a custom order from a customer's daughter's wedding china that had broken. These were pretty much designed by the customer, except for the wire wrap on the pendant. She asked that the brooch have no wire and a scalloped edge. And she asked for a 2" x 2" pendant. Her response was "stunning"!

Newest Limoge jewelry

I truly have not been attentive to my jewelry business since the beginning of December and haven't been very creative at all during the past 4 months. I remember having so many ideas and beautiful china to work with back in December but life got in the way as it has a tendency to do. I'm now trying to get back in the groove and have created some pieces from a beautiful Limoge cup given to me by a friend.

All of these pieces are available at http://www.marjoriescracked.com/new.html.

The cup had floral designs both on the inside and outside of the cup and the pendants below can be worn on either side for versatile use.

These earrings match the second pendant shown above.

And finally this wire crochet necklace with gold wrapped broken china pendant.

It's good to be back! :)

19th Century shard of china - now pendant!

I received a lovely call from Sherrie Ruhl in Maryland a couple of weeks ago. She had a shard of 19th Century china that she wanted me to make into a pendant for her. She was full of compliments about my work and wanted to leave the design up to me. I found the story of how she found this piece of china fascinating and wanted to share it with you and Sherrie has kindly given me permission to do that.

"I dug that shard up out of my tiny backyard when I was homesteading in Ridgely's Delight in Baltimore City, now known as Camden Yards because Ridgely's Delight is next to the Orioles stadium. My house was built in the early 1800s and the whole broken bowl would have been buried in the yard - though I found only that small piece when I was renovating the property.

"I think the bowl is simply transfer ware - a common kind of pottery used in the early 1800s, probably exported to the USA from China.

"The shard has tremendous sentimental value to me - I remember the hot day my neighbor and I dug up the back yard and turned it into a beautiful courtyard with trees and roses and lots and lots of flowers. We also found old medicine bottles and an old gold ring."

And here's the finished pendant!

I sent a photo to Sherrie and she was very pleased with the finished result. She said she now can wear it instead of burying away her memories in a dusty box. It truly does make me happy to be able to transform a shard of china like this into something people can treasure for many years to come. I'll be sending this pendant off to Sherrie first thing in the morning and will be smiling all day. :)

Blue Willow custom order started

I had mentioned before about the custom order I've received to design china from a customer's Blue Willow china platter. This china belonged to her aunt whom she loved and admired greatly. Unfortunately, the platter fell off the top of the refrigerator and broke into far too many pieces to salvage. The customer has requested that I design jewelry from the china for her to give her relatives this Christmas. Since it is a Christmas order, I hadn't done anything with the china when it arrived. But I've now broken it into the desired pieces. I can't believe my luck that I was able to save the two birds and the boat which are such an integral part of the Blue Willow tale. To read the fascinating tale, please check out my prior blog posting.

Here are some of the pieces that I'll be using to make the pendants. In talking it over with my customer, we decided not to use the tree piece. Instead we may be using another one of the oval designs which is located in several places around the border of the platter. All of the pieces shown here are in very rough form and still need to be shaped and smoothed.

These pieces will be transformed in several pairs of earrings.

And these will be used to make men's tie tacks. I'm very excited to be branching out into men's jewelry and will be adding more of this type of jewelry to my site in the very near future.

So stayed tuned to see the final designs from this beautiful Blue Willow china platter.

New Valentine's Day Jewelry

In addition to the new broken Waterford crystal jewelry that I just wrote about, which would make wonderful Valentine's Day gifts, I also just added these new pieces to my website.

First, there is this white sea glass pendant. This is authentic sea glass, not tumbled glass, and was found on the Jersey Shore many years ago. It's a flawless piece of sea glass, not a blemish anywhere. And it's in the shape of a heart! All naturally formed by the motion of the sand and ocean. The piece of sea glass itself is worth the price I'm asking for this pendant. The pendant measures 1-1/4" x 2-1/4" counting the bail and is wrapped with silver artist wire.

Next is a pendant designed from a broken shard of Richard Ginori china from Italy. This is a gorgeous pattern of china. This particular piece has a vibrant yellow and a blue flower and has been shaped into a heart. Wrapped with silver artist wire, the piece measures 1" x 1-3/4" counting the bail. It would make someone a lovely Valentine's Day gift.

Designed from Spring Garden Royal Domino china, this piece shows a lovely spring garden and don't we all need a touch a spring in the winter time!? It's wrapped with gold artist wire and measures 1" x 2".

Last is a fun piece designed from a mug with a Valentine's conversation heart that says "Sweet Heart". This heart is wrapped with black artist wire and measures 1" x 1-3/4".

All of these pendants comes with an 18-inch black velvet cord with a 2-inch extension chain. Though the bails are large enough to use with almost any of your own favorite cords or chains.

So give that special someone a unique handcrafted-with-care gift this Valentine's Day. You'll know for a certainty that they won't already own such a piece of jewelry since each is a one-of-a-kind item. These pieces can all be found at Marjorie's Cracked Plate Jewelry website.

Happy shopping to you!

Latest custom order - Bella Lux wire crochet necklace

I just haven't been able to find the time to blog about any of my custom orders but I would like to tell you about my latest one. Most of the story is going to have to wait until after Christmas though! But this is one piece that I can share with you.

This is a yellow rose pendant made from Bella Lux china. The young lady loved the one her mom bought so, since I did have another piece of the same china, I offered to make something similar for her. She asked for lots of wire flourishes so I flourished away! I also designed the wire crochet necklace with a thinner wire than her mom's and gave it a ruffle appearance. It actually stands up a bit along the edges. She was thrilled with it, which made me very happy.

Story to be continued.....
