Jeremy's New Cart!!

Here's a very short video of Jeremy in his new cart at the beach. This cart was donated by volunteers at Rescue Ridge, the rescue who saved Jeremy 2-1/2 years ago. They have been wonderfully supportive through Jeremy's illness and I'm so grateful to them for giving Jeremy this chance to have this type of mobility once again.

He adjusted so quickly to his cart - was running down the street the second day! It just supports his hips to the right level so that his legs can move and he can practice placing his feet properly. He doesn't drag his feet as badly in this cart, though when we walk down the street, I sometimes put his feet up in the stirrups. He did beautifully on the beach. He needs to build his strength up. He had to rest a couple of times while we were down there. I took him out of the cart so he could lay down for a bit. He chased seagulls and went in the water and had a great time.

His surgeon has told me that she feels he's reached maximum improvement and that the movement he's gotten back is about the best that he will ever have. I couldn't have been more surprised since it's only been three months since his surgery. I thought it would take at least a year for him to be back to himself. Anyway, I've heard enough stories of dogs who didn't even start moving until 6-9 months following surgery and then went on to walk again. So I'm not giving up hope on more improvement. In fact, I've seen more improvement since the doctor told me that was it. His hips are stronger and don't sway as much and he's placing his feet a bit better. The incontinence, though, has pretty much stayed the same through this whole time. We're just taking it one day at a time.
